We have a schools programme to suit learners of all ages, abilities, and learning styles, including homeschooled, SEN and SEND learners. We currently offer learning opportunities for students from KS1-KS4 and are happy to work with schools to make sure that every learner’s needs are met.

Turn children into budding geographers as they explore the adaptations and migrations of plant species, environmental preservation, and the cultural significance of nature around the world. The Arboretum is home to plant species from across the globe, creating an international experience without leaving the Estate.

With beautiful landscapes and views across the Essex countryside, there is no better place for art students to connect with nature and let their creativity fly free. Open air art lessons will give learners the chance to create and explore in a new setting, with a focus on developing artistic technique and interpreting the world around them.
Take inspiration from the surroundings

Learners of all ages and abilities can find inspiration for creative and descriptive writing in our Arboretum and Walled Garden. Our sessions will focus on natural imagery as students write poems, letters, and postcards about the trees, wildlife, and landscapes of Markshall.
Global thinking
Did you know every year 12% of children don’t visit the natural environment each year? Playing and learning outside is a fundamental part of childhood. That’s why we are working on our ‘Need for Nature Project’, to enable more children to enjoy easy access to high-quality nature-led experiences in the great outdoors.
We believe environmental access and education is more important now than ever. As people take a deeper interest in the world around them, and concern for our natural environment continues to grow, we want to provide more opportunities to enable children and young people to learn about the natural world and our changing environment.
