Our incredible volunteers are at the heart of Markshall. Their unmatched commitment and dedication helps us to deliver amazing events for the community, educate and give the best visitor experience, and keep our Arboretum and Gardens looking glorious all year.
Our dedicated volunteers give more than 3500 hours of time every year; spending time in our unique landscape, speaking to visitors, enjoying events and making new friends.
There are a number of volunteer roles to suit your skills. So, why not join the team?
We couldn’t imagine Markshall Estate without the support of our volunteers, so join the team. Here are some of our volunteering roles:
- Visitor Welcome/ Admissions : Be the friendly face that welcomes people as they arrive for their Markshall adventure. This role involves processing till transactions, dealing with some Friends of Markshall queries, supporting the production and delivery of events, trails and organising fish food for visitors.
- Golf Buggy Drivers/ Guided Tours : In this role you may be asked to provide group tours of the Arboretum, drive one of our golf buggies which allow us to make sure everyone has access to our beautiful grounds, provide shuttle services on event days and potentially provide talks to local groups.
- Arboretum Volunteers (Horticulture and Grounds) : Our Arboretum Volunteers work alongside the Arboretum and Horticulture Team to make sure our grounds are looking amazing all year. This role is varied and tasks can include: laying the snowdrop path, bulb planting, clearing bramble and more. Our Arboretum Volunteers meet on a Tuesday but if this is a date you can’t do, then please speak to the team.
- The Honywood Tearoom Volunteer : This role involves supporting the tearoom by helping to clear tables, pot washing and answering visitor enquiries. This role may also give opportunities to support with catering events at Markshall.
